Partner reading
Paired pupil reading is another way that pupils can practise fluency. You will need to think about the
combinations of pupils that you pair. If you choose mixed-ability grouping, a struggling reader will be able
to hear smooth and accurate reading from a fluent reader. By pairing pupils with equal abilities, pupils can
set common goals and work together to read with fluency. Photocopy the form below for pupils. Have each
pupil place the form in a reading folder. Each pupil should complete the form after a partner reading
session.
