raises over £1,000
for Alzheimer’s
research uk
On Saturday 29th June, the hottest day of
the year at the time of writing, High Trees
garden in Seaford opened its gates for the
second year running in aid of Alzheimer’s
Research UK. 73 visitors flocked from as
far afield as Shoreham, Ditchling, Haywards
Heath and Robertsbridge in Sussex, and
the first ever transatlantic visitors were
welcomed from New York and Canada.
Despite the soaring temperature, visitors enjoyed the
beautiful garden, woodland, and serene koi pond, whilst
managing to find plenty of shade to relax and enjoy
tea and homemade cakes on vintage china baked by
Nicole Luckin and Dominic Avey. Plants and handcrafted

cards contributed to sales, and raffle sales proved hugely
successful once again due to the generosity of friends,
family and local businesses. The total raised for Alzheimer’s
Research UK was £1053.66. The open garden event on
30th June raised £733.50, and £320.16 were raised from
plant and tea sales when the garden opened on 16th June
for the National Garden
Scheme.

garden. Susan
says,’We are so happy to have raised over £1,000 for
Alzheimer’s Research UK, which is even more than the
amount of £875 raised last year. Many of the visitors
who supported us have a relative or friend living with
dementia. We hope that by opening our garden we can
contribute to research to find a cure for this disease.’
