The Royal Society St George
st george is
busy again
On Friday 21st June, branch President, Laurie
Holland went with Rosemary Holland to the
headquarters of the Armed Forces Charity
Combat Stress at Leatherhead in Surrey. On
the way they collected RSSG Chairman Joanna
Cadman. The purpose was to present the charity
with a cheque for just over £400 being the amount
of sponsorship Rosemary and Joanna gained for their
20-mile walk ‘Up the Ouse and down the Cuckmere’.
Joanna Cadman wishes to walk 125 miles this year
to commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the
foundation of The Royal Society of St George –1894.
This mileage is to be done in small chunks with
different English Branches –
so only 105 miles to go!
The following day, Saturday
22nd June, President Laurie
Holland and Vice Chairman
Ann Abbott visited the Hub
at Peacehaven to see the
Peacehaven Marshal Arts
Group. This was to present
them with a special Chinese
Drum along with a Lion
Costume (for which they are now saving their money)
to use at demonstrations in the area. This will be a
great means to show off the young people’s skills and
disciplines as well as amuse audiences. The drum was
Seahaven Branch chairman Bob
Peedle MBE outlined what the Royal Society
does and said: ‘Since the formation of our Seahaven
branch in 2010, it has been a pleasure and privilege to
support so many local charities and worthwhile groups
with gifts, especially when they support the youth in
our area.’
At time of writing the next
commitments for the branch are
firstly Veterans and Armed Forces
Day at Seaford’s Martello Fields
on 29th June, an event for the
whole of the District of Lewes and
surrounding towns and villages, and
then on Saturday 27th July there
was a special Banquet to celebrate
the 125th year of The Royal
Society of St George. Any of the
local organisations or charities who have received gifts
from the Seahaven Branch were welcome to come
along – for information contact the chairman, Bob
Peedle MBE on 5414928@talktalk.net.
their Chinese Drum and then try it out for noise! It
was most impressive.
