cradle hill community primary school goes active Cradle Hill Community Primary School is celebrating its success increasing their pupils’ and staff’s active lifestyles and has been featured in an Active Sussex case study this school term.The school has increased its specialist provision, as teacher Katie Hooker has achieved the Level 6 Primary PE Subject Leadership Qualification. Katie oversees the Extra Curricular clubs and works in partnership with Wave Leisure trust and external providers, to offer more than two clubs each school day and school holidays for the children to participate in. Cradle Hill pupils come together each term in their houses to compete within their year groups in a range of sports including football, dodgeball, athletics and SINGING FOR FUN For adults of all ages and abilities Like to sing for the sheer joy of it? ...then join us each week for a time of musical fun! Katie also works with Wave Leisure trust to access interschool competitions in the Seaford Schools Community. Cradle Hill pupils are also encouraged to continue the active culture outside of school and to participate in events such as a ‘Bike it Breakfast’ to encourage pupils to cycle to school to help reduce the traffic in the community. Half of the school field has been transformed into an all-weather pitch so that it can be used all year round and is now being used for events like winter sports days. The whole school takes part in the mile run every day when possible. The children love taking part in this and we also have a chart in class for them to track their progress. Active brain breaks are a brilliant way to regain focus within class too. New permanent playground markings have been added throughout the school, including a netball court which is now being utilised by a local netball team. The impact of all of this has increased the number of infant pupils visibly involved in physical activity during playtimes. Pupil engagement and enjoyment in learning have both improved. Pupils are also making greater academic progress. We strongly feel as a school that having an active approach plays a significant role in raising academic achievements.
