Penn Valley Rodeo

The sport of Rodeo started in early
ranching days of the wild west as a
way for local ranchers to show off
their skills and get together for a picnic
including the famous “deep pit” BBQ and
other foods. Penn Valley was the “breadbasket”
for the region, providing much of the
milk, beef, produce and other foods to the
gold mining camps in the region so there
were plenty of competitors.
The Penn Valley Community Rodeo Association
keeps the historical origins of our
roots alive today by bringing the community
together to celebrate our great western and
ranching heritage with a CCPRA Rodeo.
Delicious BBQ, fresh Pie à la Mode and cold
drinks are on tap as well as other treats from
local non-profit organizations. Vendors, music,
Rodeo Dance, and a kids zone combine
with the thrills of professional rodeo events
including Bull Riding, Saddle Bronc, Bareback
Bronc, Barrel Racing and Roping to
make for a fun community event.
The town of Penn Valley also hosts a good
old-fashioned hometown Rodeo Parade.
Local businesses get all decked out for the
Rodeo Week Best Decorated competition
the week prior to the actual rodeo.
