The mission of this readaptation centre is to offer adaptation, readaptation and social integration services to persons who, by<br />

reason of their intellectual disability, require such services, as well as persons to accompany them, and support services for their<br />

families and friends. To that end, it shall ensure that the person's needs are assessed and that required services are offered to<br />

them within their facilities or within the person’s own environment, at school, at work, at home. In this regard, this rehabilitation<br />

centre encourages, facilitates, and promotes the participation of persons with intellectual disability in the daily social life of their<br />

community.This establishment is affliated to the Montreal WHO Collaborating Center for research and training in mental health at<br />

the Douglas Hopital Institut in Mental Health<br />

Paul Young is the past-Chair of the Council of Canadians with Disabilities (CCD), one of the founding member of People First<br />

of Nova Scotia and a founding member and past presi<strong>de</strong>nt of People First of Canada. In 1998, he created his own consulting<br />

business – Young and Associates – and is known internationally as a respected and gifted motivational speaker. He was a keynote<br />

speaker at the WHO co-sponsored 2nd International Conference on Intellectual Disabilities in Bangkok, Thailand, in 2007.<br />
