Other interesting competences could have been inclu<strong>de</strong>d, for<br />

example «teaching ability». This would perhaps have provi<strong>de</strong>d a<br />

relevant perspective in re<strong>la</strong>tion to a significant sector of employment.<br />

The responses of employers might also have been affected by the use<br />

of the word «advanced» rather than «basic» in re<strong>la</strong>tion to knowledge<br />

or grounding in the profession. The former might have been given a<br />

higher rank.<br />

The questionnaires were trans<strong>la</strong>ted into the 11 official <strong>la</strong>nguages of the<br />

EU by Tuning members. Each of the Universities sent and received back the<br />

questionnaires from their graduates and employers and sent them on to<br />

University of Deusto where the questionnaires were processed.<br />

Each of the Universities got back its own data file by e-mail and the<br />

graphs for the total and the different subject areas. By agreement and<br />

for confi<strong>de</strong>ntiality reasons, no graph or analysis was ma<strong>de</strong> at central<br />

level in re<strong>la</strong>tion to individual universities. Each university was expected<br />

to do the institutional analysis, and reflection at local level and bring<br />

this to the area group. They could, also, compare their own data with<br />

total and area results.<br />

5.3. Procedure<br />

The procedure requested of the coordinators at the participating<br />

universities with respect to the selection of the different samples was<br />

as follows:<br />
