ANDRITZ to rehabilitate the
hydraulic passages at Carillon
generating station, Canada
(andritz) ANDRITZ has been awarded a
contract by Hydro-Québec, Canada, to rehabilitate
the hydraulic passages of the Carillon
generating station located on the
Ottawa River, Canada.
This order follows the recent contract
from Hydro-Québec for the first phase to
complete the re-equipment of six 54-MW
turbine/generator units of this plant. Realization
of this additional project will span
over seven years.
The first part of the contract comprises all
work related to the design, manufacture
and installation of hydro-mechanical
equipment required for the repair and / or
replacement of six hydraulic passages (including
civil mechanical work), 18 new intake
gates (6 m x 10 m), 18 sets of new embedded
guides (25 m), rehabilitation of 18
trash racks (6 m x 20 m), as well as 18 new
hydraulic hoist systems.
With this additional contract, ANDRITZ
Hydro Canada not only proves its strong
relationship with Hydro-Québec, but also
demonstrates its ability to offer integrated
rehabilitation solutions covering all components
related to production of hydroelectric
power.

ANDRITZ to supply a new HERB
recovery boiler for Billerud
Korsnäs’ mill in Frövi, Sweden
(andritz) ANDRITZ has received an order
from BillerudKorsnäs to supply a HERB recovery
boiler for its mill in Frövi, Sweden.
The new boiler will replace the existing
recovery boiler that has been in operation
in Frövi since 1969.
The ANDRITZ scope of supply includes a
HERB recovery boiler designed for the current
pulp production level, but also to support
a future black liquor combustion capacity
of 1,670 tds/d and with future steam
parameters of 100 bar and 505 °C to maximize
power generation.
ANDRITZ will also supply a high-density
concentrator solution to increase the black
liquor concentration. This will improve operation
and increase power generation by
the HERB recovery boiler at Frövi mill even
further.
Richard Morén, Mill Director, Billerud-
Korsnäs Frövi, says: “We have been very

of the recovery boiler supplier is an
important step in our Frövi investment project.

Bilfinger expands cooperation
with Saudi Electricity Company
• Inspection and maintenance at two
power plants in Saudi Arabia
• Three-year extension of cooperation in
place since 2013 at Ghazlan Power plant
• New contract with base term of six years
awarded at Shuqaiq Power plant
• Combined order volume of ~€35
million with option to expand volume
up to €62 million
(bilfinger) Bilfinger‘s cooperation with
Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), the Saudi
Arabian electric energy company, has
been extended by a further three years in
Ghazlan Power plant and a similar new
contract with base term of six years has
been awarded for Shuqaiq Power plant.
Some 300 employees of Bilfinger Babcock
Borsig Service Arabia Ltd. are deployed at
these plants to carry out maintenance and
repair activities. The order, with a minimum
combined volume of around € 35
million and expansion options that could
raise the total to up to € 62 million, will be
booked in the Engineering & Maintenance
International segment of Bilfinger.
“It is always a special honor for us as a
service provider when an important customer
like SEC is so satisfied with our services
that they once again place their trust
in us. Not only are we extending our cooperation
at the Ghazlan power plant, but we
are also expanding our cooperation to execute
similar work at the Shuqaiq power
plant,” says Christian Rugland, Acting Executive
President of Bilfinger Middle East.
Bilfinger is responsible for the inspection
and maintenance of various plant components
at the power plants. The scope of services
includes, among other things, the repair
of deaerators, steam drums, boiler
ducts, boiler casings, blowdown and flash
tank test and the repair of burners and
burner gas valves and actuators, repairs at
sea water intake areas, various valves
across the plant and other auxiliary equipment.
Bilfinger has been conducting maintenance
and repair work at the Ghazlan
power plant since 2013. SEC has now extended
the contract for this work by three
years. Similar work at the power plant in
Shuqaiq has now been added.
The natural gas-fired power plant in Ghazlan
is located almost 60 kilometers north
of Dammam on the east coast of Saudi Arabia.
With a capacity of 4,000 MW, it is the
largest power plant in the Middle East region.
SEC‘s Shuqaiq power plant is located
on the west coast of Saudi Arabia, about
600 kilometers south of Jeddah. The integrated
power plant includes facilities for
generating electricity from heavy crude oil
as well as seawater desalination plants and
has a total capacity of 2,880 MW.
