Management Studies<br />
Students may seek an academic major in management studies.<br />
Major in Management Studies<br />
The management studies major provides an interdisciplinary<br />
and holistic approach to developing skills and knowledge<br />
in decision making, problem solving, and leadership. The<br />
curriculum includes a foundation in business, accounting,<br />
economics, statistics, communications, and management<br />
theory and focuses on analysis and decision making across a<br />
wide spectrum of management activities. The major prepares<br />
students for a variety of management-related careers.<br />

The student who graduates with a major in management<br />
studies will be able to<br />
G Evaluate ethical, social, cultural and political issues as they<br />
relate to effective management of organizations.<br />
G Apply management concepts and theories from across<br />
multiple academic disciplines.<br />
G Analyze the global dimensions involved in managing all<br />
types of organizations.<br />
G Apply critical thinking concepts to data analysis, problem<br />
solving and decision making.<br />
G Develop leadership skills and knowledge using a<br />
multidisciplinary approach.<br />
degree Requirements<br />
A degree with a major in management studies requires<br />
the successful completion of 120 credits of coursework<br />
including 36 credits for the major (indicated by F); 41 credits<br />
in general education requirements (GERs); and 43 credits<br />
in the minor, electives, and other requirements. At least<br />
18 credits in the major must be earned in upper-level courses<br />
(numbered 300 or above).<br />

Studies Major<br />
Coursework for a major in management studies<br />
includes the following:<br />
G Required foundation courses (12 credits):<br />
BMGT 110 (or prior business experience and<br />
an additional supplemental course); ACCT 220;<br />
ECON 201 (or 203); and STAT 230 (or STAT 200)<br />
G Required core courses (6 credits): BMGT 364<br />
and HRMN 302<br />
G Supplemental major courses (18 credits):<br />
Any ACCT, BMGT, ENMT, FINC, FSCN, HRMN,<br />
MGST, or MRKT courses<br />
G Required related courses (3 credits), which may<br />
be applied anywhere in the degree: ACCT 326<br />
(or IFSM 300)<br />
Recommended Sequence<br />
The following course sequence will fulfill all of the<br />
requirements for the BS in management studies. Since some<br />
recommended courses fulfill more than one requirement,<br />
substituting courses for those listed may make it necessary<br />
to take additional courses to meet degree requirements.<br />
Students should consult an academic advisor whenever taking<br />
advantage of other options.<br />

general education requirements (in communications, arts<br />
and humanities, behavioral and social sciences, biological and<br />
physical sciences, mathematics, and interdisciplinary issues)<br />
