Philosophy within the<br />
General Studies Major<br />
Students may seek either a minor or a general studies major<br />
focused on philosophy. The description and objectives of the<br />
major in general studies may be found on p. 110.<br />
degree Requirements<br />
A degree with a major in general studies and a focus in<br />
philosophy requires the successful completion of 120 credits<br />
of coursework including 30 credits for the major (indicated<br />
by F); 41 credits in general education requirements (GERs);<br />
and 49 credits in the minor, electives, and other degree<br />
requirements. At least 15 credits in the major must be earned<br />
in upper-level courses (numbered 300 or above).<br />

requirements for philosophy within<br />
the General Studies Major<br />
Coursework for a major in general studies with a<br />
focus in philosophy includes the following:<br />
G Required foundation courses (6 credits):<br />
PHIL 100 and one of the following courses:<br />
PHIL 140, 142, 170, 245<br />
G Core courses (21 credits): Any upper-level PHIL<br />
courses<br />
G Supplemental major course (3 credits):<br />
Additional courses related to the discipline<br />
(contact an academic advisor for a list of<br />
approved courses)<br />
Recommended Sequence<br />
The following course sequence will fulfill all of the<br />
requirements for the BS in general studies with a focus in<br />
philosophy. Since some recommended courses fulfill more<br />
than one requirement, substituting courses for those listed<br />
may make it necessary to take additional courses to meet<br />
degree requirements. Students should consult an academic<br />
advisor whenever taking advantage of other options.<br />

general education requirements (in communications, arts<br />
and humanities, behavioral and social sciences, biological and<br />
physical sciences, mathematics, and interdisciplinary issues)<br />
