mgt 495 strategic management (3)<br />

(Intended as a capstone course to be taken in a student’s last<br />

15 credits.) Prerequisites: BMGT 340, BMGT 364, and<br />

MRKT 310. A culminating course that integrates knowledge<br />

gained through previous coursework and experience in<br />

business and management. This course assumes a thorough<br />

understanding of the conceptual foundation of the field and<br />

builds on those concepts through integrative analysis, practical<br />

application, critical thinking and consideration of emerging<br />

issues. Focus is on the continuous, systematic process of<br />

managerial planning, including environmental scanning and<br />

the development of plans and strategies to gain competitive<br />

advantage. Tactical and strategic management issues are<br />

highlighted by means of case studies, projects, and discussion.<br />

Access to spreadsheet software is recommended to analyze<br />

case studies and develop strategic planning information,<br />

charts, and graphs. Students may receive credit for only one<br />

of the following: BMGT 495, BMGT 430, MGMT 495, or<br />

TMGT 380.<br />

bmgt 496 business Ethics (3)<br />

A study of the relationship between business ethics and<br />

social responsibility in both domestic and global settings.<br />

Ethical and moral considerations of corporate conduct,<br />

social responsibilities, policies, and strategies are explored.<br />

Emphasis is on the definition, scope, application, and analysis<br />

of ethical values as they relate to issues of public consequence<br />

in the context of the functional areas of business at both the<br />

domestic and global levels.<br />

CHEm 103 general Chemistry i (4)<br />

(For students majoring or minoring in a science; not<br />

appropriate for nonscience students fulfilling general<br />

education requirements. Fulfills the laboratory science<br />

requirement.) Prerequisite: MATH 107 or MATH 115. A<br />

study of the nature and composition of matter. Elements,<br />

inorganic compounds, and chemical calculations are covered.<br />

Students may receive credit for only one of the following<br />

courses: CHEM 102, CHEM 103, CHEM 105, CHEM 107,<br />

or CHEM 121.<br />

CHEm 113 general Chemistry ii (4)<br />

(For students majoring or minoring in a science; not<br />

appropriate for nonscience students fulfilling general<br />

education requirements. Fulfills the laboratory science<br />

requirement.) Prerequisite: CHEM 103 or CHEM 105. A<br />

study of kinetics; homogeneous, heterogeneous, and ionic<br />

equilibria; oxidation/reduction reactions; electrochemistry;<br />

and chemistry of the elements. Students may receive credit<br />

for only one of the following courses: CHEM 113 or<br />

CHEM 115.<br />

CHEm 121 Chemistry in the modern World (3)<br />

(For students not majoring or minoring in a science.) An<br />

exploration of the effects and applications of chemistry on<br />

human life and activities. The chemistry of the universe,<br />

living organisms, the brain, food and drugs, consumer goods,<br />

metals, plastics, and fibers are discussed. Students may receive<br />

credit for only one of the following courses: CHEM 102,<br />

CHEM 103, CHEM 105, CHEM 107, CHEM 121, or<br />

GNSC 140.<br />

CHEm 122 laboratory Chemistry (1)<br />

(Fulfills the laboratory science requirement.) Prerequisite<br />

or corequisite: CHEM 121. May not be used to satisfy<br />

the laboratory science requirement without credit for<br />

CHEM 121. Laboratory experimentation illustrating<br />

chemical principles and applications in the modern world.<br />

Students may receive credit for only one of the following<br />

courses: CHEM 103, CHEM 104, CHEM 113, CHEM 122,<br />

CHEM 233, CHEM 243, or CHEM 245.<br />
