Prerequisite: ITAL 212 or equivalent Italian proficiency.<br />
A study of business terminology, vocabulary, formats, and<br />
practices. Emphasis is on everyday spoken and written<br />
workplace Italian, using authentic text from native speakers.<br />
Written and oral practice is provided in finding and<br />
communicating information, especially on commercial topics<br />
in business and other workplace situations. Assignments<br />
include a project involving specific vocabulary, forms of<br />
professional communication, and cultural protocols relevant<br />
to the student’s workplace or major.<br />

(Conducted in English.) A study of Italian life and culture<br />
from Roman times to the Renaissance. Field trips may be<br />

Courses in library skills (designated LIBS) may be applied<br />
toward:<br />
G the general education requirement in information literacy;<br />
and<br />
G electives.<br />
Degree-seeking students must complete LIBS 150 (or present<br />
its equivalent in transfer) during their first 18 credits of<br />
enrollment at <strong>UMUC</strong>.<br />
libs 150 information literacy and Research methods (1)<br />
An introduction to the research process and methods for<br />
retrieving information in a library or through online sources.<br />
Development of a research topic and the creation of effective<br />
strategies for finding relevant information are discussed<br />
and practiced. The following information literacy skills are<br />
emphasized: understanding the research process; selecting<br />
appropriate print and electronic sources to answer research<br />
questions; effectively using Web search engines and <strong>UMUC</strong><br />
Information and Library Services’ electronic resources to find<br />
information; and evaluating, organizing, and correctly citing<br />
the information found. Credit for LIBS 150 may not be<br />
earned through challenge exam or portfolio credit. Students<br />
may receive credit for only one of the following courses:<br />
COMP 111, LIBS 100, or LIBS 150.<br />
