Call for Action
Resilience strategy for
Emden
The city of Emden is in need of a
strategy and regional plan that is
climate proof on the one hand and
strengthens the socio-economic
position and attractiveness of
the city on the other hand. In this
strategy long term thinking and short
term action need to be included. This
needs to be done in an integrated
way in which the key elements are
included.
This strategy needs to be developed
with professionals, stakeholders and
people for the region on the basis
of the most prominent challenges. A
coalition of organisations and people
that want to positively support the
strategy for the future needs to be
developed. For this a participatory
approach with the people from the
region is needed.
Learning community and
improving skills
Emden is very interested to
develop and participate in an
(international) Wadden Climate
Adaptation Community where
people and organizations can learn
from each other and improve their
skills. This can be done with the
partner organizations and as well
with a wider group of involved
organizations and stakeholders. In
this way organisations from the city
of Emden and region profit from the
developed knowledge and skills.
Develop and start inspiring pilot
projects
After the deepening of the
challenges and the development
of a resilience strategy, concrete
inspiring pilot projects need to be
developed. In these cases different
challenges need to come together.
At this moment there is a focus on
developing 2-3 specific pilot projects
concerning climate proof water
management, an environmental
educational program and sustainable
tourism (water, Wadden Sea, boats
and bikes). The ambition is to
develop the pilot projects and start
with the execution of them to act,
to create leverage and develop
examples for future.
