Water as Leverage - Wadden Sea Region

The Wadden Sea is one of the forefronts where climate challenges
become a devastating reality. In order to reverse course, we need
to tackle many challenges at the same time. Water As Leverage is a
pre-project approach geared towards integral and pro-active project
proposals that can cope with such a challenge. It aims to enable the
needed exchanges between different stakeholders to formulate and
develop resilient solutions that prevent crises, rather than react to them.

In collaboration with the Rich Wadden Sea Program, the trilateral
Wadden Sea Board and local partners in the Wadden islands and
coastal cities of Texel, Terschelling, Harlingen, Emden, Esbjerg, Ribe
and Fanø, we are exploring how this approach can unfold into resilient
and implementable climate adaptation projects for the Wadden Sea.
This booklet is the introduction to the Water As Leverage Wadden
project. In a first part, we summarize the Water As Leverage approach.
In a second part, we dive into the many shared challenges and their
interdependencies across the Wadden Sea and thus literally set the
scene for all the cases.
