An artist who explores<br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>tersection of<br />

nature and culture<br />

“My dist<strong>in</strong>ctive style <strong>in</strong>corporates modern, immersive<br />

and abstract works with natural components,” says Layla<br />

Husa<strong>in</strong>.<br />

Layla Husa<strong>in</strong> is a self-taught Bahra<strong>in</strong>i artist<br />

who has been creat<strong>in</strong>g art for <strong>the</strong> past<br />

2 decades. Her passion for blend<strong>in</strong>g<br />

realism and expressionism is reflected<br />

<strong>in</strong> her work, where she uses natural elements<br />

to create immersive abstract pieces. Layla’s<br />

work is described as an <strong>in</strong>tersection of nature<br />

and culture, as she comb<strong>in</strong>es elements found<br />

<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> natural world with local and regional<br />

cultural <strong>in</strong>fluences.<br />

Layla’s creative repertoire <strong>in</strong>cludes mixed<br />

media such as oil, acrylic, alcohol <strong>in</strong>k, res<strong>in</strong><br />

and different textures. She f<strong>in</strong>ds <strong>in</strong>spiration <strong>in</strong><br />

her surround<strong>in</strong>gs, <strong>in</strong>corporat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> beauty<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Bahra<strong>in</strong>i landscape <strong>in</strong>to her work. Her<br />

pieces reflect her personal experiences and<br />

her connection to nature. One of <strong>the</strong> def<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g<br />

characteristics of Layla’s work is her ability<br />

to blend <strong>the</strong> realistic and <strong>the</strong> abstract. Her<br />

pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs often <strong>in</strong>clude realistic depictions of<br />

natural objects such as leaves or flowers, but<br />

<strong>the</strong>se objects are transformed through <strong>the</strong> use<br />

of colour and texture <strong>in</strong>to abstract elements<br />

that <strong>in</strong>teract with <strong>the</strong> overall composition.<br />

Layla’s work is also dist<strong>in</strong>guished by <strong>the</strong> way<br />

<strong>in</strong> which she <strong>in</strong>corporates cultural motifs <strong>in</strong>to<br />

her pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs. These motifs often take <strong>the</strong> form<br />

of Arabic calligraphy or o<strong>the</strong>r elements drawn<br />

from <strong>the</strong> local culture. Layla has participated<br />

<strong>in</strong> several exhibitions <strong>in</strong> Bahra<strong>in</strong> and abroad.<br />

In <strong>2023</strong>, her work will be featured <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Paris<br />

Expo art3f. She has also held solo exhibitions,<br />

<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> 2021 AMWAJ Solo Exhibition<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Taaluf Exhibition. Her work has been<br />

featured <strong>in</strong> several publications and media<br />

outlets, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g GDN, Al Ayam, and News<br />

of Bahra<strong>in</strong>. In addition to her artistic pursuits,<br />

Layla holds a BSc <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Informatics, an<br />

International Diploma <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess from AMA<br />

University, and a National Diploma <strong>in</strong> Bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

from Cambridge University. She is a member<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Bahra<strong>in</strong> Arts Society and <strong>the</strong> Women’s<br />

International Club of Bahra<strong>in</strong>.<br />

Layla Husa<strong>in</strong>’s unique perspective and<br />

artistic talent have earned her recognition and<br />

appreciation both locally and <strong>in</strong>ternationally.<br />

Her work reflects her passion for nature and<br />

culture, and she cont<strong>in</strong>ues to <strong>in</strong>spire o<strong>the</strong>rs<br />

with her creativity and dedication to her<br />

craft. In her pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>gs, Layla <strong>in</strong>vites us to see<br />

<strong>the</strong> natural world <strong>in</strong> a new way, as a place<br />

where <strong>the</strong> boundaries between realism and<br />

abstraction, and between nature and culture,<br />

can be transcended.<br />
