Jameel Arts Centre - An Ocean <strong>in</strong> Every Drop exhibition<br />

This exhibition focuses on <strong>the</strong> importance of water, and how it is a force that “produces history, culture, language and social relations”.<br />

Water susta<strong>in</strong>s trade, offers a means of escape, is a source of life and is celebrated by cultures from <strong>the</strong> ancient Greeks and Egyptians,<br />

to <strong>in</strong>digenous North Americans. It explores <strong>the</strong> threats – droughts, floods, and ris<strong>in</strong>g sea levels. Work comes from Jumana Emil Abboud,<br />

al-Istakhri, Martha Atienza, Raven Chacon, Cian Dayrit, Léuli Eshrāghi, Asunción Mol<strong>in</strong>os Gordo, Abul Hisham, Candice Hopk<strong>in</strong>s, Sohrab<br />

Hura, Husse<strong>in</strong> Nasseredd<strong>in</strong>e, Thảo Nguyên-Phan, Daniel Otero Torres, Karan Shrestha, Fatima Uzdenova and Munem Wasif and <strong>the</strong><br />

exhibition runs until <strong>April</strong> <strong>2023</strong>.<br />

Jameel Arts Centre - Sara Sadik: They will end up <strong>in</strong> rav<strong>in</strong>es<br />

Artist Sara Sadik uses video games, science fiction, everyday life and French rap music to write com<strong>in</strong>g-of-age stories. Her video works<br />

stage young men fac<strong>in</strong>g challenges and striv<strong>in</strong>g to achieve moral and physical transformation. Her multi-screen <strong>in</strong>stallation Ils f<strong>in</strong>iront dans<br />

des rav<strong>in</strong>s (They will end up <strong>in</strong> rav<strong>in</strong>es) is <strong>in</strong>spired by video gam<strong>in</strong>g arenas. Over a series of game-like missions, <strong>the</strong> protagonists <strong>in</strong>vent<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir ideal society and devise ways to protect <strong>the</strong>ir environment. Through <strong>the</strong>ir words, which reveal <strong>the</strong>ir hopes and anxieties, Sara Sadik<br />

reflects on systems of coercion while depict<strong>in</strong>g how self-love and community love <strong>in</strong>vigorate resistance to oppression and social exclusion.<br />
