Islamic calligraphy, also known as “Islamic ornamental penmanship,”
is considered one of the highest forms of artistic expression in
Islamic culture. It has been practiced for centuries and can be seen
in everything from religious texts to architecture and textiles.
The art of miniature painting, which involves creating small and
highly detailed paintings is highly developed in Islamic culture.
Many Islamic miniature paintings feature scenes from everyday life,
religious stories, and courtly scenes.
The use of arabesques, intricate and ornate designs featuring
interlocking geometric patterns and plant forms, is a common
feature of Islamic art and design. Arabesques can be seen in
everything from textiles to architecture.
Many mosques and other Islamic buildings are decorated with
intricate and colourful tilework, calligraphy, and other forms of
ornate decoration. One example is the Blue Mosque in Istanbul,
Turkey, which features beautiful tilework and calligraphy throughout
its interior.
