Explor<strong>in</strong>g Omani heritage and landscape through<br />
realism and expressionism<br />
Alalawi has been an active member of <strong>the</strong> Omani Society for F<strong>in</strong>e Arts (OSFA) s<strong>in</strong>ce 1993 and<br />
was part of <strong>the</strong> Youth Art Studio <strong>in</strong> 1986<br />

Said Alalawi is an Omani artist who<br />
specializes <strong>in</strong> draw<strong>in</strong>g and pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g with<br />
a focus on realism and expressionism.<br />
Born <strong>in</strong> 1965, Alalawi’s <strong>the</strong>mes often<br />
revolve around Omani landscapes, heritage,<br />
traditional dances, <strong>the</strong> sea, and ships. He<br />
works with oil and acrylic colors. Alalawi holds a<br />
Bachelor’s degree <strong>in</strong> Education Adm<strong>in</strong>istration<br />
from Sultan Qaboos University (2014) and a<br />
Diploma of Teach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> Social Studies from<br />
<strong>the</strong> College of Teachers (1988).<br />
Alalawi has been an active member of <strong>the</strong><br />
Omani Society for F<strong>in</strong>e Arts (OSFA) s<strong>in</strong>ce<br />
1993 and was part of <strong>the</strong> Youth Art Studio <strong>in</strong><br />
1986. He has participated <strong>in</strong> several local and<br />
<strong>in</strong>ternational exhibitions and symposiums. In<br />
1989, Alalawi had his first solo exhibition at <strong>the</strong><br />
Altaliya Sports Club. He also participated <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>the</strong> annual exhibitions of f<strong>in</strong>e arts and Arabic<br />
calligraphy, charity auctions, art education<br />
teachers exhibitions, and <strong>in</strong>ternational events<br />
such as <strong>the</strong> International Aviation Exhibition<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> UK and <strong>the</strong> International Youth Forum<br />
<strong>in</strong> Egypt.<br />
Apart from his exhibitions, Alalawi conducts<br />
workshops and art camps for youth and adults.<br />
He also organized several workshops on oil color<br />
pa<strong>in</strong>t<strong>in</strong>g, ceramics, metal wires simulations,<br />
and mural art. Alalawi has received numerous<br />
awards, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Jury Prize at <strong>the</strong> 12th<br />
Annual Exhibition of Arabic Calligraphy and<br />
Literal Formation <strong>in</strong> 2017, and an appreciation<br />
award from His Majesty’s Office for be<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>the</strong> best <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> art category dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Youth<br />
Year <strong>in</strong> 1993.<br />
Alalawi’s artworks have been collected by<br />
government and private <strong>in</strong>stitutions. He has<br />
also been officially represented by Oman <strong>in</strong><br />
various <strong>in</strong>ternational events, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g a jo<strong>in</strong>t<br />
art exhibition <strong>in</strong> Malaysia, Omani fly<strong>in</strong>g art<br />
exhibition <strong>in</strong> Malaysia, visit<strong>in</strong>g program to<br />
Biennale Venice <strong>in</strong> Italy, and Gulf Cooperation<br />
Council F<strong>in</strong>e Arts Creativity Festival <strong>in</strong> Kuwait.<br />
