A Great Month for Entertainment
By: Evan Davis / Entertainment Director
May is a great month for entertainment. As are
the other 11 months.
The first week alone
brings such talent as
Chadwick Johnson to the Italian American
Club on May 4 th , Rick Kelly on the 3 rd at Grape
Street Café in Downtown Summerlin and Tony
Arias on May 6 th at the Clark County Library
with Broadway special guest soloist Niki Scalera
and musical director and pianist extraordinaire
Philip Fortenberry.
You can switch between the Great American
Song Book and good old Country when you follow
Ronnie Rose from the Stirling Club to Gilley’s.
Let’s not forget The Golden Tiki in Chinatown
where Tony Felicetta puts his Dino a’ la Carte show together.
Santa Fe and The Fat City Horns are still doing their “thang”
every Monday night and The Windjammers every Wednesday
night. On May 12 th The Vegas Voice presents “An Afternoon Affair”
luncheon and variety show at Sun City MacDonald Ranch in Henderson
hosted by Jonny Bird and myself.
And then on Saturday May 20 th Rita Lim will put on a dynamite
show at Sun City MacDonald Ranch (see page 13) to celebrate her
birthday, which by the way is May 20 th . She promises to have her band,
under the musical direction of David Siegel, and a rotating door
of many guest performers that will join her in
celebrating her birthday.
Michael Grimm on May 13 th at the Italian
American Club is a great entertainer and winner
of America’s Got Talent, plus Bob Anderson
is back at IAC on the 17 th and 18 th . He never
disappoints.
The Composers Showcase, which is an
entertainment forum that allows local composers
and songwriters the opportunity to present original
music and is hosted by Keith Thompson
happens May 10 th at Myron’s in The Smith Center.
Vic’s, right across from The Smith Center on
Promenade Place, is a fairly new Jazz Club featuring national stars and
players from the Las Vegas Jazz program nightly. There is also Maxan
Jazz on Decatur and The Dispensary Cocktail Lounge at Tropicana and
Eastern that both bring fabulous jazz to the public.
