An SMS configuration is made <strong>of</strong><br />

Set <strong>of</strong> data class, storage class, management class<br />

and storage group<br />

SMS configuration<br />

An SMS configuration is composed <strong>of</strong>:<br />

► A set <strong>of</strong> data class, management class, storage class, and storage group<br />

► ACS routines to assign the classes and groups<br />

► Optical library and drive definitions<br />

► Tape library definitions<br />

► Aggregate group definitions<br />

► SMS base configuration, that contains information such as:<br />

– Default management class<br />

– Default device geometry<br />

– The systems in the installation for which the subsystem manages storage<br />

The SMS configuration is stored in SMS control data sets, which are VSAM linear data sets.<br />

You must define the control data sets before activating SMS. SMS uses the following types <strong>of</strong><br />

control data sets:<br />

► Source Control Data Set (SCDS)<br />

► Active Control Data Set (ACDS)<br />

► Communications Data Set (COMMDS)<br />
