loaders (ICL), IDRC, and 3490E.<br />

Tape mount management also improves job throughput because jobs are no longer queued<br />

up on tape drives. Approximately 70% <strong>of</strong> all tape data sets queued up on drives are less than<br />

10 MB. With tape mount management, these data sets reside on DASD while in use. This<br />

frees up the tape drives for other allocations.<br />

Tape mount management recommends that you use DFSMShsm to do interval migration to<br />

SMS storage groups. You can use ACS routines to redirect your tape data sets to a tape<br />

mount management DASD buffer storage group. DFSMShsm scans this buffer on a regular<br />

basis and migrates the data sets to migration level 1 DASD or migration level 2 tape as soon<br />

as possible, based on the management class and storage group specifications.<br />
