Particulars of the priority fields <strong>in</strong> the various <strong>databases</strong><br />

The PRAI, /PRN field only has data if a foreign priority was actually claimed: USPATFULL, USPAT2,<br />

USPATOLD, IFIPAT<br />

The PRAI, /PRN field does not exist: RUSSIAPAT<br />

The PRAI, /PRN field may conta<strong>in</strong> non-standardized priority numbers: PATDPAFULL, PCTFULL<br />

There is a PRAO, /PRNO field that conta<strong>in</strong>s the orig<strong>in</strong>al (non-standardized) priority<br />

numbers. This field is filled either <strong>in</strong> addition to the PRAI field or only this field is<br />

the pre-def<strong>in</strong>ed display formats:<br />

PATDPAFULL, EPFULL,<br />

PCTFULL, FRANCEPAT,<br />

KOREAPAT, RUSSIAPAT,<br />

FRFULL, GBFULL<br />

In some <strong>databases</strong> the orig<strong>in</strong>al application numbers are recorded <strong>in</strong> the APO field (KOREAPAT, RUSSIAPAT).<br />

These fields are not <strong>in</strong>cluded <strong>in</strong> the pre-def<strong>in</strong>ed display formats. This may apply to document numbers <strong>in</strong><br />

the PNO field too.<br />

20.5 <strong>Search</strong> by document number<br />

Document numbers (Publication Numbers), just as Application Numbers, can have very vary<strong>in</strong>g formats depend<strong>in</strong>g<br />

on the patent office, e.g. just a serial number, a number with preced<strong>in</strong>g year, identical with the digit sequence of the<br />

Application Number, etc. Often, to dist<strong>in</strong>guish the publication status with<strong>in</strong> the patent procedure, the Document<br />

K<strong>in</strong>d Code is specified as well. Examples:<br />

When search<strong>in</strong>g for a document number (SEARCH field /PN) on <strong>STN</strong> International, a uniform format is to be used <strong>in</strong><br />

all <strong>databases</strong>. This format has the follow<strong>in</strong>g structure:<br />

For numbers of up to 7 digits:<br />

For numbers of 8 digits:<br />

For numbers of 12 digits:<br />

For numbers with a lead<strong>in</strong>g/trail<strong>in</strong>g year (19YY):<br />

CC Country (Tow-letter code)<br />

n Optional digit; enter without a lead<strong>in</strong>g zero or punctuation. (A lead<strong>in</strong>g zero due to the Japanese<br />

year of the emperor should be entered and will be removed by Messenger if necessary.)<br />

N Digit<br />

ZZ Digits, designate the type of <strong>in</strong>tellectual property (see Number formats )<br />

YY/YYYY Year (two or four-digit)<br />
