Types of search<br />

As the number series of US publications overlap a letter should be appended to the number when<br />

search<strong>in</strong>g certa<strong>in</strong> types of IP publications (INPADOCDB, INPAFAMDB, DWPI). In the US <strong>databases</strong> a<br />

letter may be appended <strong>in</strong> the search query, however it is removed by SEARCH EDIT. The display<br />

format of the document numbers is dependent on the database (see appendix Publication Numbers).<br />

20.5.2 Note on JP document numbers<br />

The first number denotes the year of the Emperor (EE), the second part is the actual number. Conversion between<br />

the year of the Emperor and the Western year is as follows:<br />
