AB A method of improv<strong>in</strong>g the control of a rotary cutt<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>e is<br />
disclosed. The cutt<strong>in</strong>g element of the rotary cutt<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>e be<strong>in</strong>g a<br />
filament which is rotated at high velocity under the control of a motor,<br />
such as powered by a battery or gasol<strong>in</strong>e. The <strong>in</strong>vention provides with<strong>in</strong><br />
the lower rotat<strong>in</strong>g head of the rotary cutt<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>e an optical source<br />
which illum<strong>in</strong>ates the filament such that the distal rotat<strong>in</strong>g end of the<br />
filament provides a visual <strong>in</strong>dication to an operator of the location of<br />
the rotat<strong>in</strong>g cutt<strong>in</strong>g element. In an embodiment of the <strong>in</strong>vention the<br />
electrical power for the optical source is provided by provid<strong>in</strong>g an<br />
electrical generator with<strong>in</strong> the rotary cutt<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>e such that for<br />
example the rotor is with<strong>in</strong> the rotat<strong>in</strong>g head and the stator with<strong>in</strong> the<br />
upper body of the rotary cutt<strong>in</strong>g mach<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
