AB PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To atta<strong>in</strong> omission of a wire harnesses, such as a<br />

power cable, and improvement <strong>in</strong> power loss, <strong>in</strong> a vehicle driv<strong>in</strong>g system of<br />

an eng<strong>in</strong>e/motor hybrid type.<br />

SOLUTION: Portions 1 of wheels are driven by an eng<strong>in</strong>e 3. Wheels 2, other<br />

than the wheels driven by the eng<strong>in</strong>e 3, are driven by a rotary electric<br />

mach<strong>in</strong>e 4. When a runn<strong>in</strong>g load is large, such as at start<strong>in</strong>g and go<strong>in</strong>g up<br />

a slope, the rotary electric mach<strong>in</strong>e 4 is driven as a motor for driv<strong>in</strong>g<br />

the wheels to assist an eng<strong>in</strong>e drive system. In driv<strong>in</strong>g a vehicle, there<br />

exists a driv<strong>in</strong>g region requir<strong>in</strong>g no motor-driven assist, such as<br />

low/medium load runn<strong>in</strong>g and at speed reduction. When such an assist is not<br />

required, the rotary electric mach<strong>in</strong>e is caused to function as a power<br />

generator, and mechanical energy from the wheels is converted <strong>in</strong>to<br />

electrical energy. The rotary electric mach<strong>in</strong>e 4, an <strong>in</strong>verter 7, a<br />

capacitor 11 and a controller 18 are <strong>in</strong>tegrally formed as a unit, and is<br />

fitted to a differential gear 5.<br />
