4.1 About the Hardware Installation<br />
Hardware installation of the <strong>SDM</strong>-<strong>8400</strong> involves the following steps:<br />
• Installing the unit in a rack (Optional) - “Installing the Unit in a Rack” on page 4-<br />
3)<br />
• Powering up the unit (“Powering Up the Unit” on page 4-5)<br />
• Connecting the console terminal (“Connecting the Console Terminal” on page 4-<br />
7)<br />
• Installing the licensed software options (“Installing the Licensed Software<br />
Options” on page 4-9)<br />
• Connecting the unit to the LAN hub (“Connecting the LAN Hub” on page 4-9)<br />
• Connecting the user equipment to the serial ports (“Connecting the User Equipment”<br />
on page 7-3).<br />
NOTE: None of these procedures require removal of the chassis cover, adjustment<br />
of internal parts or installation of optional parts inside the unit.<br />
Warning: Do not remove the cover of the <strong>SDM</strong>-<strong>8400</strong>. The <strong>SDM</strong>-<strong>8400</strong> unit<br />
contains no user-serviceable parts. Only a qualified technician approved by<br />
Memotec is authorized to open the unit.<br />
