The night of April 11, 1911, finally came around. Our hopes
had soared high after that Cornell meet, and the fact that Princeton
had missed winning the Eastern Intercollegiates by a a hairbreadth
was forgotten—until afterward. The meet itself was interesting,
if saddening. Princeton jiroved too strong for our boys,
and, struggling ganielA% tliey went down to tlie tune of 30 to 15.
Princeton won the rehn' in fast time. Then Selby, of the Tigers,
nosed Joey Morris out of first in the 50-yard dash bA' inches. Next
Painter, of Princeton, trimmed Patty in the ])lungc, Patty not haA'ing
the best of form on his plunges, "lack a day." These two events,
with the turn of fortune, we might have won, but the meet—naj',
Lauretle. Captain F^. Cross, of tiie Orange and Black, won the 100
and 220 from Joey, tlie lii-sl |jy a j^ard and the second by a good four
yards. But new slate records in both of these events were registered,
times being 59.3-5 seconds and 2:38 3-5 minutes. Friesell,
of the Princeton team, dived in beautiful form and snatched first
place fi'oni our Teddj% Avho was in the best mettle he has ever been.
All in all, the team made a good showing against the men who
hailed from New Jersey. \ win would have fitted in niceh', but
Coach Sulli^iln's men were loo strong, that's all. The ])ool room
