"Aw—Oh—Whew! What time is it anyhow? Um, eleventhirty!
English, French; sixty pages for MacDonald by Friday.
What do I have to do tomorrow? Go to town! Armstrong's, Jones,
everything's ready for that. Come on History, might as well get
you off my mind. History—History, what is it I should have and
didn't do? History. Oh, the Junior Class History!
"Didn't I tell Paddy to tend to that? I remember, he had the
swimming team. What a job! Histories arc all alike; always
flag rushes. Freshman receptions and football all jumbled together
in 'diaries,' 'dreams,' 'My-college-in-1914-now-tliat-it-i.s-1950,' style.
Wish we didn't have to have one.
"What has happened in 1915, after all? The inevitable flag
rush! Didn't take long for the Sophs to eliminate us, did it? Four
minutes! Remember the parade to town? Goose was President
that year, wasn't he? Yes, and Kruse the next and Oberschmidt
this year.
You know, I was as proud as he and Downer were at that Prom
of ours in February. Man! how those "Pork Chops" did play. Six
feet of snow outside didn't seem to affect anybody but the chapcrones
and then the Dean survived.
"Wonder how the Electrical Co-ops got that globe in the center
of the gym to change color. Wonder what became of my program;
I liked the looks of that, with the seal and the bewildering insides.
Wonder where they found a bank large enough to hold the surplus
$19.28. Wonder if day after tomorrow will be time enough for
that history. Wonder if Paddy'U do it then. Wonder if I hadn't
better give it up for tonight?"
