Graduation from High School<br />

Subject Requirements<br />

Courses offered in satisfaction of the following subject requirements must be<br />

included on a list submitted to the Director of Admissions of the University by<br />

the high school principal if the school is located in California. This list must<br />

have been certified by the principal to the effect that the courses meet the requirements<br />

for admission to the University, and the list must have been approved<br />

by the Director of Admissions . If the high school is not located in<br />

California but is regionally accredited , appropriate courses will be considered<br />

acceptable.<br />

A. HISTORY-1 YEAR<br />

This must consist of a year course in United States history , or one-half year of<br />

United States history and one-half year of civics or American government.<br />

0. ENGLISH - 9 YEARS<br />

These must be university preparatory courses in English composition and<br />

literature.<br />

C. MATHEMATICS - 2 YEARS<br />

These must consist of university preparatory courses in such subjects as<br />

algebra, geometry , trigonometry , calculus , elementary functions , matrix algebra,<br />

probability, statistics , or courses combining these topics.<br />

0. LABORATORY SCIENCE-1 YEAR<br />

This must be a year course in one laboratory science.<br />

E. FOREIGN LANGUAGE -2 YEARS<br />

These must be in one language. Any foreign language with a literature is<br />

acceptable.<br />

F. ADVANCED COURSE - 1 OR 2 YEARS<br />

This must be chosen from one of the following:<br />

Mathematics . A total of 1 year of mathematics beyond the 2 years offered<br />

toward the mathematics requirement.<br />

Foreign language . Either an additional year in the same language offered<br />

toward the foreign language requirement or 2 units of another foreign language.<br />

Science . A year course in laboratory science completed after the science offered<br />

toward the science requirement.<br />

Electives to complete the minimum of 15 standard entrance units are also<br />

required.<br />

The subject requirements listed above may be satisfied only by courses completed<br />

with a grade of C or higher.<br />

Scholarship Requirements<br />

At least a B average is required in courses taken after the ninth year which are<br />

used to meet the subject requirements listed above.<br />

In determining the required average, a grade of A in one course will be used
