Congrès International sur l’Analyse du Cycle de Vie Lille, Novembre 2011
Le CIRAIG combine ces deux approches car il réalise à la fois de la recherche fondamentale et de la
recherche appliquée.
Bonnie NIXON
There are many data gaps to fill and we need to find that missing data as aggressively as possible.
So while multiples databases may be gathering existing research, we will come together at the right
time and when the right tools exist.
Guido SONNEMANN
I agree that it will come at the right time. There is now a real demand, even though the market
changes very often.
On the subject of toxicity, we found that some of the NGOs felt strongly that hazard screening was not
taken far enough. So they are developing their own system called Green works, which Wal-mart is
funding. I met different groups dealing with toxicity issues, put a case study together and asked them
to use their science to do their analyses so we can look at the results and see how they differ. This is
one of the ways we are trying to address the complexity and controversy surrounding this topic.
Guido SONNEMANN
We talked to scientists about how simply developing methods is not enough. There is a huge need for
communication. It is not only about having good scientific tools but about talking to people with
different standpoints.
Pierre ECHARD
Thank you. That is a good transition for the next session on communication and environmental
labelling.
