LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
GREYCELLS
Association of Former International Civil Servants for Development
Dear Retiree,
April 2008
The purpose of this letter is to introduce to you Greycells, an association for development, which has been
created by a group of retired international civil servants. The association, based in Geneva, was set up
formally at a constituent assembly held in January 2008, at which it adopted its Statute. An Executive
Committee has been elected to guide the activities of the association.
Greycells brings together international officials who have retired from service (and those within two years of
retirement) who would like to continue to be active in the global development effort by making available the
expertise and experience acquired over long careers. The association is also open to retired members of
diplomatic missions and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The association is non-profit, nonpartisan,
and its activities are carried out by members on a volunteer basis.
Greycells has identified two main lines of action: one in support of the international community’s work in the
developing world; and another, Geneva-based, under which the association will co-operate with Swiss
institutions, as well as with intergovernmental organizations and accredited country representatives, with a
view to improving the information capacity, outreach and hospitality facilities of Geneva as a host city for so
many international organizations and NGOs.
Greycells will be financed by annual subscriptions of its members, intended mainly to cover administrative
costs, and by contributions from donors for projects. The annual subscription has been set at CHF 100.
In order to maximize its effectiveness and the range of assistance it can offer, Greycells needs as many
members with as diverse experience as possible. If you have some spare time, and are interested in “giving
something back”, we would be pleased to hear from you. Also, since we do not have addresses for all retired
officials, if you know of anyone who may be interested, please pass this information on. For further
information, or to join the association, please write to greycells08@gmail.com.
Yours sincerely,
The Executive Committee
