“UNDISCLOSED RECIPIENTS”
I refer to your e-mail concerning the Bohemia trip. I do not understand how I received it but, because the
“TO” line says only “undisclosed recipients” – that is to say it does not state my full e-mail address - it is
automatically directed to the “Delete items” box. If other members are using the same simple filter to avoid
unwanted messages the same may be happening to them and the message may not be seen. It was only by
chance that I spotted it … You may like to consider another way of sending material to all members.
Reply from the Secretariat of the AAFI-AFICS:
Dennis Hodsdon
The “undisclosed recipient” system is the only way to avoid reproducing on each circular message the
detailed list of the some 1’500 electronic addresses of those AAFI-AFICS members (out of more than 3’500)
who now use internet for their mail.
Apparently the system works well – except for those who – like you – have installed a special filter to
eliminate such messages! Hopefully they are not too many! Alas, the only alternative is the old faithful snailmail
which, at any rate, will be used in parallel as long as the “non-electronic generation” has not become an
extinct species!
Thank you for your “accidental” help. We shall publish a special warning about this in our next Bulletin.
