4. (1) The National Archives shall be managed andcontrolled by the Director of National Archives who shall beappointed by the Yang DiPertuan Agong; and for thepurpose of such management and control; it shall be dutyof the Directora)to describe and arrange all public archives;b) to provide facilities for research and reference;c) subject to the terms and conditions on which theyare acquired, to reproduce or publish anu publicarchives;d) to examine any records in the custody of a publicoffice and to advise such office as to the care andcustody of such records.e) to accept and preserve any records which aretransferred to the National Archives.f) at the request of any administrative head of a publicoffice, to retirn to that office for such period as maybe agreed upon between the Director and theadministrative head and subject to such conditionsas the Director may prescribe, the public recordstransferred from that office to the NationalArchives.g) to acquire by purchase, donation, bequest orotherwise any document, book or other mateerialwhich in the opinion of the Director is or is likely tobe of enduring national or historical value; andh) to perform such other function as are necessary forthe purpose of the said management and control.Management of Archives by theDirector and powers of Director(2) The provisions of paragraph (f) of sub-section(1) shall not be taken to require the Director to return any86
