7. The Minister may from time to appoint such officersas are necesarry to assist the Directory in the carrying outof his functions under this Act.Appointment of officers8. (1) Any public records which are more than twentyyears old, and any non-current public records which in theopinion of the Director are of sufficient value to warranttheir preservation, shall be transferred to teh NationalAchives.Provided that the Minister shall have the power towithhold public records containing secret and confidentialinformation from being transferred to the National Archives.Transfer pf public records toNational Archives. As AmendedAct A 85 dated 10.9.71.(2) It shall be awful for the Director to defer thetransfer of any public records to the National Archiveswhere he is satisfied that by reason of the nature of therecords the immediate transfer would unduly prejudice theadministration of any public service or would not be in theinterest.9. (1) Any person having possesion of any public recordsshall on demand in writing by the Director, deposit item inthe National Archives (whether it came into his possesionbefore or after the passing of this Act).Public records to besurrendered on demand.(2) Nothing in this section shall be deemed to authorisethe Director to demand the surrender of any public recordsthat are kept in any public office of any State Govermentexcept with the consent of that Goverment.88
