European Young Lawyers Scheme

The European Young Lawyers Scheme (EYLS) offers the opportunity to young
European legal practitioners to become acquainted with the legal systems of
England/Wales and Scotland, while networking with young lawyers from all
over Europe. The experience is one of high quality professional and personal
development.
Participants take part in an intensive course of study that is followed by a
professional attachment to a firm of solicitors and to barrister chambers in
London, or to an advocate in Edinburgh.
The courses run from January-July 2005 and in February the groups spend
one week together in Northern Ireland.
Candidates should be under 36 years of age, have at least 2 years of experience
as a lawyer and have a good knowledge of English.
The academic fees and certain other costs of the programme, including the
week in Northern Ireland are covered centrally by British Council Norway.
There may be a requirement to supplement this grant with a privately found
contribution to cover maintenance costs.
One or two Norwegian candidates are usually chosen to attend the course
each year. Applications are now being taken for the 2005 scheme.
