The Norwegian International Ship Register (NIS)
Vast number of registrations this summer
Thirty-seven ships with a total
gross tonnage of 777 640
entered the NIS from the
beginning of May until the end of
August this year. Eleven of the
ships were newbuildings, two
were transferred from the
Norwegian Ordinary Ship
Register (NOR) while the
remaining 24 were transferred
from foreign flags. On 31 August,
the NIS counted 640 ships with a
total gross tons of 16 168 640.
We have to look back to 2004 to
see an equivalent large fleet in
our international register.
