important to the preventive work with infectious diseases.
Based on the review of the implemented interventions in Objective domain 7:
protection against communicable diseases, we propose the following interventions
as top priorities:
• Develop a national health data register for registration of vaccines.
• Establish a health data register for the monitoring of healthcare-associated infections
and diagnosis-related antibiotic prescriptions.
• Strengthen the communicable disease control for vulnerable groups by the introduction
of needle exchange activities which can provide quick access to testing
and healthcare.
• Strengthen the national collaboration against antimicrobial resistance through
the creation of national structures for cooperation.
The work has also revealed further needs for investigation in this area:
• Investigate how the public health monitoring of the Objective domain 7 can be
strengthened. This investigation should particularly explore if there is a need to:
– review the indicators in the objective domain (especially for the factor occurrence
of infectious agents) and develop objective criteria for the selection of
indicators that can be used for follow-up
– create opportunities to socioeconomic conditions and country of birth in the
public health follow-up of Objective domain 7
– thoroughly assess the impact of proposed actions that can be identified by the
annual epidemiological monitoring of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and the
monitoring of the prescribing of antibiotics
– investigate the current system for reporting HIV cases by the national code.
