Summary
In Anatolian until now, at the explorations which are related paleontology
and geology areas, there were lots of fossil remains determined by late Miocene
localities which are belonged to Giraffidae. “At Anatolian’s Late Miocene Giraffes
(Mammalia-Giraffidae)” working the Giraffidae remains, which their genus / species
determinations were made, were given a big importance about combining from
articles and publics and by this it is aimed to show this remain places and to give the
paleontologic and stratigraphic explanations for founded samples and also by this it
is wanted to have a clear opinion about evolutionary tolerances of Anatolia.
Through these told aims, in Turkey, at Western Anatolia 14, at Northwestern
Anatolia 11 and at Central Anatolia 15 locations –totally at 40 localities (which place
long areas and also belong to continental late Miocene deposits) giraffid fossils were
found. At this remain places it was determined that Giraffidae were represented by 7
genus (Paleotragus, Samoterium, Bohlinia, Giraffa, Decennatherium,
Helladotherium, Bramatherium) and 18 species (Paleotragus sp., P. coelophyrs, P.
roueni, P. quadricornis, P. hoffstetteri, Samoterium sp., S. boissieri, S. neumayri, S.
major, ?S. decipiens, ?S. pamiri, Bohlinia attica, Giraffa sp., Decennatherium
macedonia, Decennatherium sp., Helladotherium duvernoyi, Helladotherium sp.,
Bramatherium sp.) –which are belonged to that mentioned genus. In addition, in this
localities there are 2 places (Sinap and Corakyerler) where can be found primate
(Hominoidea) faunas.
