I would liketo report here the informationthat the excavation team hasgiven to the media;“This is a burial chamber, andinside we have found humanskeletons, oil lamps, ceramicpots and coins. We know thatthere are examples of this kindof burial chambers in the ancientperiod. However, thisburial chamber is slightly differentfrom its counterparts inother regions; there are diamond-shapeddecorations, inaddition to door, door lock andmirror motifs, on the walls. Weknow the door-shaped decorationscharacteristic of the region, and the grave stones ofthe region. However, these ornaments arecompletely unique to the region.Although it is a decorativeform that appears frequentlyin the structures in Aizanoi, itwas met here for the first timewithin a burial chamber. Theyhave somehow carved thedoor to the other world in thisgrave. As they were aware ofan afterlife, they have reflectedthis in their graves, burialforms, and burial rites for thedead. And this burial chamberappears to be the best exampleof this approach. In this respect,it emerges as a rich andnew find for the region and weare very pleased to have foundthis burial chamber. We continueto work with enthusiasmand we believe that we will findmore examples like this one.”And we thank the PamukkaleUniversity, Department of Archeologyfor the work theyhave undertaken, contributedto history, and we look forwardto their new finds which willshed further light on history. The construction of the 3 rdchurch of Hagia Sophia, which the historian Prokopiosrecorded provides informationabout its construction, was begun by two architects, namely Isidoros from Miletusand Antemios from Tralles. Ahundred masters, a thousandjourneymen, and ten thousandworkers were employedduring the construction work. The Emperor Justinian, whowished the building to be finishedas soon as possible, orderedbeautiful architecturalpieces from the old cities tobe sent to Constantinople tobe reused in Hagia Sophia,in a letter sent to all statesby him. Thus, architecturalpieces from the ancient citiesof Anatolia, Syria, Egypt, and Greece were brought toHagia Sophia by ships and incarts. Eight of the red porphyrycolumns from the Templeof Artemis were brought fromEphesus and reused.A large number of marblecolumns and ornate corniceswere also taken from Aizanoito Constantinople, duringthe construction of this HagiaSophia in 532. These werethe years when the slow destructionof Aizanoi began. Itis likely that many of the mastersof marble carving weretaken for the construction ofHagia Sophia in Constantinople,or had gone by themselves...Aizanoi, which was an importantcenter of the episcopacyin the early Byzantine period, began to lose its reputationand get wiped from history, from the 8 th century onwards. The Cavdar tribe of Tatars beganto live in Aizanoi, whichwas included in the Principalityof Germiyanogullari, in the13 th century A.D. The templewas used as a fortress duringthis period, and the figurescarved in its walls by themcan still be seen more thansevern hundred years later...Zeus Tapınağı Medusa / Zeus Temple Medusa
