ment “maritime” law, and it shall not
be similar to the trading law”
Eng. Ali Al Suwaidi , General Manager
of Dubai Maritime City: “The
most important aspect that we need
to focus on is to enhance the confidence
within the national maritime
sector and to prove that it is capable
of becoming among the leading
sectors. The maritime sector still has
tremendous potential and promising
opportunities by building clusters
that serve the overall economy
growth cycle. Doing business in the
current era demands innovation, excellent
connectivity and infrastructure.
The iconic development provides
all these and much more for
businesses to progress and thrive”
Jasamin Fichte, Managing Partner,
Fichte&Co:. “The UAE has a huge
potential to grow as an exceptional
maritime hub. However, I highly recommend
that we need to have one
transport minister in order to create
a leading maritime environment. We
need a proper maritime court as we
need a judge who understands what
is going on. We should look at the
greater benefit for the whole country
not only for one emirate. We could
establish an international registry
and keep the local one to cause less
trouble. The law is updated so frequently
without the knowledge of
the individuals, which leaves us in a
critical situation where we are fined
often for not going by the new regulation.
We are asking of you to bring
our voice forward to the executive
system, to whoever are in charge. We
need to find a way to synchronize the
law for the greater benefit”
Capt.Wael Qarajah, Dry Fleet Department
Manager, ADNOC: “ I believe
that effective collaboration between
both private and government
sectors is the key to boost more investments.
ADNOC has recently announced
about the in-country value
initiative to boost the UAE’s local
private sector. That’s why, I encourage
all the roundtable participants to
take part at ADNOC’s initiative that
aims to drive even more opportunities
for local businesses to benefit
and grow alongside us, as well as employment
opportunities for the sector.
I also request from FTA to take
prompt actions and release the new
law that will solve our major issues”
Eng.Waleed AlTamimi, General
Manager, Tasneef Maritime: “The
UAE is exerting exceptional efforts
in order to be ready to cope with the
changes that are constantly taking
place in the maritime sector, especially
in terms of keeping pace with
the modern technologies related to
shipbuilding, ports, and various maritime
infrastructure facilities”
Capt. Gamal Fekri, Managing Director,
MC Ship Management:
“I strongly request from the FTA to
abolish the requirement of the navigation
license, as it is misunderstood
and misperceived by both the individuals
and the FTA, and it is hindering
the progress of the maritime sector
in the UAE. We need highly the FTA’s
help to enhance the UAE maritime
sector by releasing the new law that
should benefit all industry players”
Suha Obaid, Deputy CEO, Folk
Shipping: “We need solutions to
cope with different laws for each
port. We need the central banks to
look into this industry very seriously,
as we need their support. We need
rules and regulations to calm down
at the moment. We need the FTA
to set the rules and laws, which are
already promised by his Excellency
the UAE Minister of Infrastructure
Development, so we are expecting
some unified rules. I confirm that we
need unified regulations for all ports’
operations!”
