During the panel discussion, experts
emphasized the need to collaborate
with academia in order to
come up with efficient solution to
enhance the maritime sector in the
UAE. Abeer AlShaali, Executive Management
Officer in Gulf Craft stated,
“We need to see more research related
to the superyacht industry, in
order to come up with new methods
of superyacht engineering. More collaboration
between the academia
and the industry will help answer
our questions in terms of innovative
designing, new communications
and technology, yacht paintings and
jell coats and building superyachts in
general.”
Mohammed Al Muallem, the CEO
and Managing Director of DP World,
the UAE region commented, “The
maritime industry has become more
developed and efficient because of
technology. When it comes to the
ports industry, our main concern is
sustainability. That’s why, we are investing
more in applying technology
into our operations in order to sustain
our resources and efficiency at
work. Furthermore, we need to benefit
from the researches and studies
taking place in universities in order to
come up with an efficient work plan
and see how we can collaborate in
order to implement it.”

Maritime Summer Challenge 2018
The workshop has concluded by
announcing the Maritime Summer
Challenge 2018 that shall target a
group of University Students who
will be conducting research on several
topics such as: Green shipping,
Maritime Leisure, App Design and
Development and Digitalization. Students
shall investigate and propose
innovative solutions for the maritime
industry’s challenges. There will be
a prize given to the winning teams
after they present their ideas at the
