During the panel discussion, experts<br />

emphasized the need to collaborate<br />

with academia in order to<br />

come up with efficient solution to<br />

enhance the maritime sector in the<br />

UAE. Abeer AlShaali, Executive Management<br />

Officer in Gulf Craft stated,<br />

“We need to see more research related<br />

to the superyacht industry, in<br />

order to come up with new methods<br />

of superyacht engineering. More collaboration<br />

between the academia<br />

and the industry will help answer<br />

our questions in terms of innovative<br />

designing, new communications<br />

and technology, yacht paintings and<br />

jell coats and building superyachts in<br />

general.”<br />

Mohammed Al Muallem, the CEO<br />

and Managing Director of DP World,<br />

the UAE region commented, “The<br />

maritime industry has become more<br />

developed and efficient because of<br />

technology. When it comes to the<br />

ports industry, our main concern is<br />

sustainability. That’s why, we are investing<br />

more in applying technology<br />

into our operations in order to sustain<br />

our resources and efficiency at<br />

work. Furthermore, we need to benefit<br />

from the researches and studies<br />

taking place in universities in order to<br />

come up with an efficient work plan<br />

and see how we can collaborate in<br />

Maritime Summer Challenge 2018<br />

The workshop has concluded by<br />

announcing the Maritime Summer<br />

Challenge 2018 that shall target a<br />

group of University Students who<br />

will be conducting research on several<br />

topics such as: Green shipping,<br />

Maritime Leisure, App Design and<br />

Development and Digitalization. Students<br />

shall investigate and propose<br />

innovative solutions for the maritime<br />

industry’s challenges. There will be<br />

a prize given to the winning teams<br />

after they present their ideas at the<br />

“The UAE Maritime Week” that shall<br />

take place on October 2018.<br />
