Siemens lands US$786 million contract for Iraq
Siemens has reached an implementation agreement worth
US$786 million with Iraq’s Ministry of Electricity to rebuild
the country’s power sector. The agreement outlines specific
projects, associated budgets and execution phase timelines.
Covering all essential elements of electrification of Iraq, the
deal includes the addition of new highly-efficient power
generation capacity, rehabilitation and upgrade of existing
plants, and the expansion of transmission and distribution
networks. A series of short, medium and long-term plans,
‘Siemens Roadmap for Electrification of the New Iraq’ will
meet the country’s reconstruction goals and support its economic
development. Additionally, Siemens had also committed
to the donation of a smart health clinic with a capacity
to treat up to 10,000 patients annually, a 60 million US-dollar
software grant for universities of Iraq to empower local
students with essential digital skills for the future, and the
training of more than 1,000 Iraqis in vocational education.

توصلت شركة ‏"سيمنز"‏ إىل عقد تنفيذ بقيمة 786 مليون
دوالر أمريكي مع وزارة الكهرباء العراقية إلعادة بناء قطاع
الطاقة يف البالد،‏ وتحدد االتفاقية المشاريع والميزانيات
المرتبطة بها،‏ والجدول الزمني لمراحل التنفيذ،‏ كما تغطي
الصفقة جميع العناصر األساس لقطاع الكهرباء يف العراق،‏
وتشمل إضافة قدرات جديدة عالية الكفاءة لتوليد الطاقة،‏
وإعادة تأهيل وتحديث المحطات الحالية،‏ وتوسيع شبكات
النقل والتوزيع،‏ وسلسلة من الخطط القصيرة والمتوسطة
وطويلة األجل،‏ وتحديد ‏"خريطة طريق سيمنز لكهرباء العراق
الجديد"‏ لتفي بأهداف إعادة اإلعمار يف البالد،‏ ولتدعم التنمية

‏"طاقة"‏ السعودية تشتري
شركتين أمريكيتين
تعتزم شركة التصنيع وخدمات الطاقة يف المملكة العربية
السعودية )TAQA( االستحواذ على شركتين يف قطاعي تكنولوجيا
وتصنيع خدمات حقول النفط يف أمريكا الشمالية بحلول نهاية
عام 2019، وذلك تماشياً‏ مع استراتيجية الشركة 2021، لتصبح
رائدة يف مجال خدمات ومعدات حقول النفط،‏ وستضيف هذه
االستحواذات تقنيات جديدة وقدرات تصنيع محددة إىل عروض
خدمات الحقول البحرية المتكاملة الحالية لدى الشركة.‏ وقد
خصصت ‏"طاقة"‏ حوايل 1.2 مليار دوالر أمريكي لالستثمارات
وعمليات االستحواذ الجديدة على مدار السنوات الثالث المقبلة،‏
يف إطار سعيها إىل توسيع نطاق صناعتها عبر منطقة الشرق
األوسط وشمال أفريقيا وأميركا الشمالية.‏ وقال عزام شلبي،‏
الرئيس التنفيذي لشركة طاقة:‏ ‏"سيتم تقديم هذه العروض
والخبرات الجديدة إىل عمالئنا يف منطقة الشرق األوسط لضمان
حصولهم على خدمات ذات جودة عالية المستوى".‏
Despite lingering concerns over compatibility and availability,
Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) has made it
known that the company will opt for low sulfur bunker
fuels to comply with the International Maritime Organization’s
(IMO) global sulfur limit rules for marine fuels. With
the IMO cap set to kick in on January 1, 2020, ship-owners
will be required to comply with a 0.5% cap as opposed
to the current 3.5%. This will cause ships to burn more
expensive, cleaner fuel or use scrubbers with high sulfur
fuel oil. Ali A. Shehab, Deputy CEO for KOTC’s fleet operations
stated, “We will walk in the direction of low sulfur
fuels but there are challenges involved for the industry.
However, we know there is a need to develop technology
to ensure suitable fuels are available for use in sufficient
quantities.”
Saudi Arabia’s Industrialization and Energy Services
Company (TAQA) plans to acquire two companies in the
North American oilfield services technology and manufacturing
sectors by the end of 2019. In-line with the
company’s 2021 strategy to become a leading oilfield
services and equipment (OFSE) provider, these acquisitions
would add specific new technologies and manufacturing
capabilities to its existing integrated OFSE offering.
TAQA has allocated roughly US$1.2 billion for new
investments and acquisitions over the next 3 years as it
seeks to expand its industry footprint across the wider
Middle East North Africa region and North America.
Azzam Shalabi, CEO of Taqa said, “These new offerings
and expertise will be brought back to our clients in the
Middle East region to ensure they get access to worldclass,
high quality services.”
الناقالت الكويتية تعلن استخدامها ألنواع الوقود المتوافقة مع ضوابط المنظمة
البحرية الدولية 2020
على الرغم من المخاوف المستمرة بشأن وفرة وقود
السفن المتوافق،‏ أعلنت شركة ناقالت النفط الكويتية
)KOTC( أن الشركة ستختار أنواع الوقود منخفضة الكبريت
لالمتثال لقواعد الحد من انبعاثات الكبريت العالمية للمنظمة
البحرية الدولية الخاصة بالوقود البحري.‏ مع بدء سريان
تلك التشريعات يف 1 يناير 2020، وسيُطلب من مالكي
السفن االلتزام بنسبة 0.5٪ مقارنة ب 3.5٪ الحالية،‏ وسيؤدي
ذلك إىل حرق السفن لوقود أكثر نظافة لكنه أعلى سعراً،‏
أو استخدام أجهزة التنظيف عند استهالك زيت الوقود
عايل الكبريت،‏ وصرح المهندس علي شهاب،‏ نائب الرئيس
التنفيذي لعمليات أسطول شركة الناقالت الكويتية قائالً:‏
‏"سنسير يف اتجاه استعمال الوقود منخفض الكبريت،‏ على
الرغم من التحديات التي تواجه الصناعة،‏ ومع ذلك،‏ فإننا
نعلم أن هناك حاجة لتطوير التكنولوجيا لضمان توافر أنواع
الوقود المناسبة لالستخدام بكميات كافية".‏
