Die überbordende Fleischlichkeit, etwa in den unverblümten Kopulationsdarstellungen,
dazu ein Stil, als seien Lucien Freud und Francis Bacon in
einem blutigen Duell aneinander geraten, das reichte bisher für eine kurze
Charakterisierung des Werkes der in New York lebenden, 1969 in London geborenen
Malerin Cecily Brown. Damit hat sie in den vergangenen Jahren ordentlich
für Wirbel gesorgt und sich Respekt verschafft. Die Ausstellung zeigt
neue Bilder, u.a. ein Bild aus der Sammlung Michael Ballack.

2002 besuchte Daniel Buren das Centre Pompidou. Er installierte als Retrospektive
unter dem Titel „The Museum That Did Not Exist“ seine Werke im
gesamten Haus, in allen sechs Etagen, in der Parkgarage und auf dem Dach,
im Foyer, in den Fluren und auf den Rolltreppen. Das jetzt erschienene Buch,
von ihm selbst konzipiert und gestaltet, zeigt sämtliche Arbeiten, von denen
zahlreiche nach dem Ende der Ausstellung zerstört wurden, mit seinen eigenen
Photographien in situ. Jedem Photo ist ein Plan mit Ortsbeschreibung
beigegeben. jeweils kommentiert von Bernard Blistène.
Im Vorwort schreibt Alain Seban, der Präsident des Centre Pompidou: „I am
pleased that this publication is thus ushering in a collection of books devoted
to different shows held at the Centre Pompidou, whose layout and designs are
essential milestones in contemporary museography, and makes a crucial contribution
to the history of the cultural institutions of our day and age.“
