dOCUMENTA (13)s erstes Künstlerbuch dokumentiert den ersten Teil eines
Projekts von Guillermo Faivovich (geboren 1977 in Buenos Aires) und Nicolás
Goldberg (geboren 1978 in Paris). Seit 2006 erforschen die Künstler Campo
del Cielo, einen Meteoriteneinschlag, der sich vor 4000 Jahren in Nordargentinien
ereignete. El Taco, einer dieser Meteoriten, wurde mit großem Aufwand
im Max-Planck-Institut in Mainz in zwei Hälften geteilt, die dann getrennt
voneinander im Smithsonian in Washington, D. C. und im Planetarium
in Buenos Aires ausgestellt worden sind. Im Portikus vereinen die
Künstler erstmals wieder beide Hälften, ein Schritt auf ihrer Reise zur dOCU-
MENTA (13), wo 2012 der zweite Teil des Projekts folgen wird. Die Publikation
dokumentiert die lange Geschichte des Meteoriten, die archivalischen
Recherchen der Künstler, die bis ins 15. Jahrhundert zurückgehen und die
unterschiedlichsten Medien, wie Fotografie, Video und ortsspezifische Installationen,
mit einbeziehen.

Lucian Freud spent seven months painting a portrait of the art critic Martin
Gayford. Gayford describes the process chronologically, from the day he arrived
for the first sitting through to his meeting with the couple who bought
the finished painting. As Freud creates a portrait of Gayford, so the art critic
produces his own portrait of the notoriously private artist, recounting their
wide-ranging conversations and giving a rare insight into Freuds working
practice. The book is illustrated throughout with photographs by David Dawson
of Freud at work, with paintings by Freud from the 1940s to the present,
and images by other artists discussed by Freud with Gayford. The result
vividly conveys what it is like to be on the inside of the process of creating a
painting by a great artist.
