CABE Margate

evaluation was positive and therefore in 2010
a further £3.7m was granted.
Dreamland and Arlington House
The essential repairs to the Dreamland Cinema
have been completed but due to legal
problems the idea of the heritage amusement
park has been delayed. However, the local authority
should complete its purchase of the
site this year and the park should open within
a couple of years. This will help to bring a
broad section of the public to Margate eager
to enjoy old fairground rides and indulge in a
nostalgic trip back to their youth.
The Dreamland Park will be an important
part of Margate’s reconnection with a traditional
holiday market, albeit a market perhaps
of 40-60 year old visitors trying to relive their
teenage years, but it is also trying to create a
new market for its charms.
