Point of evacuation in Central Tokyo (Tsukiji)
products from Hokkaido, Aomori, Shizuoka and the
south/west of Shizuoka, but when we go out to eat, we
don’t know if we are eating radiated food.
Is this a discussion that is also taken up by politics?
We see the topic on Japanese news whenever change
occurs, however it seems that politics are slower in
taking decisions than what the Japanese people expect.
In other countries - for example Indonesia - plans for nuclear
power plants were abandoned. How is the situation in Japan?
Some people, after they have experienced Hiroshima/
Nagasaki and the Fukushima, are still not against nuclear
power generation. So, even if there is no talk
about new Nuclear Power Plants, there is also no fixed
plan how to change to alternative energies.
How will Japan meet its needs for energy supply?
Through alternative energy such as solar energy and
wave power.
Are there alternative energy sources discussed widely to
close the gap for power demand? If yes, which?
We now see advertisement for solar panels much more
frequently than before. But there is still a big potential
for energy saving in Japan. Most buildings have little or
no insulation. Visitors from Europe are always surprised
how electricity is wasted in a country with basically no
natural resources.
How are the workers in Fukushima rewarded after working
so hard to minimize the disaster?
I don’t know how they are rewarded now, but before the
earthquake, they received much higher salary than people
who have similar jobs in Japan.
