Als wichtigerHafen für Kreuzfahrt schiffe hat Hamburg daher eineeuropaweite Initiative zur Verminderung des Schad -stoffausstoßes in der Schifffahrt gestartet. In einemersten Schritt haben sich bereits Anfang des JahresVertreter norddeutscher Kreuzfahrthäfen in Hamburggetroffen. Zusammen mit anderen Hafenstädten müsseninsbesondere die technischen und finanziellenRahmen bedingungen für einen Landstromanschlussvereinheitlicht werden. Durch die Allianz der Hafen -städte soll eine abgestimmte Beteiligung der Schifffahrtgeschaffen werden. Für Hamburg kommt es jetzt daraufan, im Zuge zukünftiger Baumaßnahmen derKaianlagen in der HafenCity und bei dem Bau desKreuzfahrt terminals in Altona die Voraussetzung füreine landseitige Stromversorgung zu schaffen.21BSU welcomes feasibility study into thepro vision of shore powerThe Hamburg Ministry for Urban Development andthe Environment welcomed the feasibility study on thesupply of shore power at the HafenCity Cruise Terminal,presented recently by the Hamburg Industry Association,Germanischer Lloyd, Siemens and Vattenfall “Shipsare contributing increasingly to air pollution in portcities. It is therefore to be welcomed that this studyinvestigates the feasibility of a shore-based electricitysupply in greater detail. This study is making animportant contribution to the Hamburg initiative for acoordinated process for European port cities,” saidState Councillor for the Environment Christian Maaß.Especially in the vicinity of residential housing andoffice buildings, the provision of shore power to shipslong term will be an important factor in our efforts toconform to the EU limits for nitrogen dioxide. For theimplementation of effective and affordable measures,a coordinated approach between port cities will benecessary. Being an important destination for cruiseships, Hamburg has therefore launched a Europe-wideinitiative to reduce pollutant emissions by the shippingindustry. In a first step, representatives of cruisingdestinations in Northern Germany met in Hamburg asearly as the beginning of this year. The technical andfinancial conditions for shore power supplies in particularmust be standardised in a concerted effort withother port cities. The aim is to achieve a coordinatedparticipation by the shipping industry through an allianceof port cities. Hamburg must now endeavour to createthe preconditions for the provision of shore-basedpower through the implementation of future buildingmeasures for the quay facilities at the HafenCity andin the construction of the cruise terminal in Altona.PORT OF HAMBURG MAGAZINE 3/0931
