The guests then had the opportunityto discuss the latest developments relating to thePort of <strong>Hamburg</strong> over a buffet of Hanseatic delicacies.The information event was very well receivedby the representatives from major companiessuch as Merck, Bayer, Evonik, Wella, Braun (P &G), Siemens, Suzuki, Kawasaki, and from logisticsenterprises like NYK, APL, Evergreen, Hapag-Lloyd, HPI, Infraserv, Schenker, Kühne + Nageland Panalpina. In the year 2008, around 200,000TEU of cargo from the German federal state ofHessen were handled in <strong>Hamburg</strong>. Cargo carriedon the principal mode of transport, rail, rose anaverage 14 per cent per annum between 2004 and2008. HHM plans to continue this series of eventsfocusing on topical issues and current developmentsinto the future, throughout Germany andEurope. The series includes the annual port soireesheld in Port of <strong>Hamburg</strong> representative offices inEurope and in the German hinterland, such as theport soiree in Neuss, which took place on 7 Maythis year. Invitations were sent out to 170 guestsfrom the production, logistics and transport sectorsin the German federal state of North Rhine–Westphalia.
