»Engadin/Graubünden« – the slogan of the 26th St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow 2010
The art of Polo is ingenious, especially in St. Moritz.Players
from all around the world, including Argentina, Australia,
and England gather at the top of the world to
measure each others’ strengths. Concentration, strength,
skillfulness, courage and endurance are required of both
the players and their horses. The Polo ponies are strong
and agile, which is necessary for the special conditions of
playing on snow and at 1800 meters above sea level,
which demands extraordinary performances from both
the animals and human beings alike.
Polo at its best! At the St. Moritz Polo World Cup on
Snow, amid the scenic mountains, you will experience
traditional British sportsmanship, characterized by
strength, elegance, speed and pride. Four teams compete
against each other over four days in a round robin concept,
with the highlight being the final day of the tournament.
This year’s event takes place under the slogan „Engadin/
Graubünden“ and will very much focus on the region.
The decor is inspired by the mountains of Graubünden
(Grisons) and guests will be well catered to with regional
specialties prepared by three of the region‘s top chefs –
Andreas Caminada, Roland Jöhri and Reto Mathis. Musical
entertainment will be provided by the young Swiss
Alpine horn player Eliana Burki. The 26-year-old is revered
as a genuine virtuoso who can unlock original jazzfunk
sounds from this traditional Swiss instrument.
Totally new for this year’s event is the energy concept.
The heated tent space on the lake will now be reduced by
a third. The energy requirement will be increasingly
drawn from renewable sources. Furthermore, the infrastructure
will be more equally divided over the lake
surface, optimizing the weight burden and therefore making
the event less dependent on the strength of the ice on
Lake St. Moritz. The St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow
therefore stands in the realm of sustainability. Future
plans are to significantly reduce the use of electricity by
generating energy solely from solar power. The goal of
the St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow is to produce a
CO2 emission-free tournament.
The annual St. Moritz Polo World Cup on Snow is not
only a top-class event in the sporting calendar, but also an
exclusive social event at which personalities from the
spheres of industry and politics, as well as leading social
figures gather in a unique atmosphere on the frozen lake.
