Schneller, unkomplizierter, höherer
Spaßfaktor – das haben andere vorgemacht,
Beispiel Volleyball (mehr Inte
resse heute: Beach-Volleyball), Beispiel
Segeln (Match-Race). Das – althergebrachte
– Gegenbeispiel: die Präsentation
von Golf bei Olympia. Ein
Desaster, da sind sich die fortschrittlich
denkenden Golf-Akteure einig.
Und sie haben auch eine Vorstellung,
wie man dem begegnen und größeren
Zulauf bei Interessenten und Aktiven
erzielen kann – mit der Spielform des
Matchplay etwa. Männer und Frauen
in einem Team – unkomplizierter,
kürzer, spannender. Mit einem Wort:
attraktiver. Siehe die Matchplay-
Serie im Business-Club, da sind ganz
gewiss auch die Geschäftsleute bestens
aufgehoben.
Bonmot des weithin bekannten
Spaniers Severiano Ballesteros dazu:
»Stört es Sie, wenn ich spiele, während
Sie reden?
Golf for business and pleasure
Golfing has generally been firmly
established into the business world – for
obvious reasons: it is rarely possible to
combine sporting activities with meetings
as perfectly as on an 18 hole course. Being
able to communicate while taking part in
a sport, being able to move from sport to
business in an informal fashion – it is a
way of making a connection that would
otherwise take some effort to find. Alexander
Freiherr von Spoerken, President of
the European Business Association says,
»Golf is an ideal way to strengthen relationships
with business partners or to
establish new contacts.« We hear from the
world of golf that the main demand is for
high calibre, exclusive events limited to a
relatively small circle. Large business tournaments,
on the other hand, are more difficult:
these too are fighting nowadays
against the pitfalls of tax legislation. But
club experts know: people play golf for
social rather than for competitive reasons;
the overall number of participants in tournaments
is declining, and golfers primarily
want to have fun. Wolfgang Mych, Managing
Director at Gut Kaden agrees. It
follows, therefore, that familiar rules and
procedures need to be reassessed. Handicap,
membership card? This deters many,
especially those who neither need nor
want etiquette like this – they just want
to play. Preferably, too, just nine holes,
because 18 holes are too much of a
demand on the time of many people in
our fast-paced age.
